Our husband, father, brother, uncle, and amazing friend, Dave Glissmeyer, passed unexpectedly of natural causes the evening of Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his home in St. George, Utah.
Dave was born October 8, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fifth child and fourth son of LeRoy Christian and Anne Mulder Glissmeyer.
Dave excelled in scholastic endeavors, sports and business ventures. His enthusiasm and skill were only surpassed by his intuitive concern for others. He played WBBA baseball in the Capitol Hill League and was on the All Star team. In elementary and junior high school he played the clarinet, the saxophone and eventually the oboe. Several months after the family moved from Salt Lake to the county he was elected Eighth Grade class president at Evergreen Junior High. As a youth, Dave excelled in basketball and played on the junior high team at Evergreen and on the varsity team for three years at Skyline High School, graduating in 1971. Perhaps the most fun was spent playing backyard whiffle ball games and a quasi-football game called "slaughter" wherein whomever caught the kickoff was tackled by all other players on the backyard lawn. Over the years Dave played with and sponsored many recreational athletic teams in both softball and basketball, he was a member of the Salt Lake Country Club and competed well in golf tournaments there. He volunteered at Shriner's Hospital and was involved in the Utah Masons Grand Lodge. Dave had the ability to see a need and had the skill and insight to fill it. Many have benefited from his generosity of time and resources.
In 1977, Dave married Zenda Mensel (later divorced) and they are the parents of two marvelous boys, George and Franklin. In 1984, borrowing on his credit card, Dave proceeded to found and to build ProTel NetWorks, a telecommunications company that helped businesses in Utah construct a reliable phone system uniquely designed for the needs of each client. His drive and hard work provided employment for many employees and provided excellent equipment and services to his customers. Dave made many friends through Protel and enjoyed going the extra mile for his clients. He often supported fund raising events for sports programs for members of his family. In February 1999 Dave married Tiffany Pope. They have enjoyed a life together of work, travel and service to others. In 2010 Dave made a bid for representative of Utah's 2nd Congressional District. Though unsuccessful in his bid he provided a much needed independent option in the election.
Dave is survived by his wife, Tiffany; son Franklin; and four siblings, Shirlee Hart, Gary Glissmeyer, Lee Glissmeyer (Tonna), and Mark Glissmeyer (Ann). He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Douglas, and his son, George.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Anderson & Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper Utah. A viewing will be held one hour before the service. Interment will be at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
