George Amos Darrington passed away Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at home, in Salt Lake City Utah after a courageous three-year battle with cancer.
George was born May 29th, 1949 in Gooding, Idaho to Kent and Edith Darrington and was the oldest of 7 children. He met the love of his life Barbara Tullis and they were married on July 27th, 1973, in the Ogden Temple. They lived in Idaho until they moved to Utah in the fall of 1980 to find more job opportunities. George worked for the Church of Jesus Christ for more than 30 years in various roles from typesetting to plate making. He loved that he got to have a hand in everything published by the church and would love to tell us when they printed the scriptures in different languages.
Loved by many, George always had a joke to break the ice or put others at ease, even at his chemotherapy treatments he made the nurses and doctors laugh. He was charismatic, loving, patient, kind and knowledgeable. He took pride in any work he did, and knowing he could do and fix things on his own. He instilled in his children that same desire to work hard and do for themselves whenever possible. He was the epitome of service. He would drop everything to go help someone in need. George served a full-time mission in London, England. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints George held several callings and loved the opportunity to carry the spirit of service into every one of them. Two of his all-time favorite callings were when he served at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple, and Summit Senior Assisted living facility in Kearns.
George was constantly an example to his children and to those around him. He always said leave things better than you found them and applied that to everything. I’m sure if you got the chance to meet him, you would say that he left you better than he found you.
George was preceded in death by his son Anthony, grandson Donovan and parents Kent and Edith Darrington as well as other loving family members. He is survived by his wife Barbara, their daughters Danita Kuehnl and Pauline Whittaker and four sons Jamie (Shantel) Darrington, Daniel (Sabrina) Darrington, Brent (Anastasia) Darrington and Todd (Kirsten) Darrington, 21 grandchildren together with four great grandchildren all of whom he adored. He is also survived by six siblings, Jim (Terry) Darrington, Kent (Sandy) Darrington, Kathleen Potter, Julia Darrington, Laura Jo (Vern) Field, Edith Kay Darrington.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 8th, 2023 at The LDS Meetinghouse, 5422 South Sarah Jane Drive, Kearns, Utah 84118, the viewing will be at 10:30 am - 11:45 am, and the funeral at 12:00 pm.
