Gene Gillett Ivie, born May 15, 1929, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2017 of natural causes just two weeks shy of his 88th birthday. Born in Loa, Utah to Jacob William and Gertrude Wilhelmina Ivie. Dad's life was well-lived. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, he worked as a machinist for over 35 years at Kennecott Copper. He enjoyed many sports and hobbies, including hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, and gardening, but his greatest joys were family. He married Lorna Long (later divorced). He cherished his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and never missed the opportunity to tell them. He will always be remembered for his wit and wisdom. Dad kept his sense of humor and wit to the very end.
Survived by daughters, Lou Carlson (Stan Funicelli), Gloria (Rick) Josephsen, Evelyn (Sheila) Payne, and five siblings. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great, great grandchild. Preceded in death by sister, Ruth Spencer, daughter, Colleen Hogan, and many lifelong friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, where there will be a viewing Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
