Gavin Paul Lyon

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, Gavin Paul Lyon, who left this world unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at the age of 35. Gavin fought valiantly against the struggles of addiction, demonstrating incredible strength and resilience throughout his journey. His determination to overcome challenges inspired all who knew him.

Gavin is survived by his loving parents, Jeffery and Gerilee Lyon of South Jordan, and his siblings: Chelsea Christensen (Andrew), Cameron Lyon (Brittany), Shaylee Evans (Tyler), Austin Lyon (Kylee), Ciarra Lyon, and Brianna Lyon. He adored his nieces and nephews—Saige, Wyatt, Lillian, Abigail, Henry, Sophie, Harper, Kaysin, Calum, Baker, and Sloane—who brought immense joy to his life. Gavin is also survived by his grandparents, Gayle Lyon and Joan Groves, and was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Paul Lyon and Gerald Groves.

Gavin attended Bingham High School and had a zest for life that was reflected in his passions. He loved the outdoors—hunting, fishing, and camping were among his favorite pastimes. He had a remarkable ability to express himself through art, creating many pieces that captured his unique perspective of the world. He also loved to cook and try new things, often sharing meals and creating memories around the dinner table with family and friends. Gavin also had a deep love for his dog, Avery, who passed away several years earlier, and their bond brought him immense comfort and joy.

In his professional life, Gavin worked in construction and remodeling, recently embarking on the journey of launching his own window washing business, showing his drive and determination to succeed. He was always eager to help others struggling with similar challenges, offering support and kindness wherever he could. Gavin befriended many people from all walks of life, forming many connections through his warmth and generosity. 

A viewing to honor Gavin’s life will be held at the LDS Church, 11251 S. 2700 W., South Jordan, UT 84095 on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10:00-10:45 AM and the funeral services following at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at South Jordan City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Jeff & Gerilee Lyon, for the Gavin Lyon Foundation, which is being created in honor of Gavin to provide support and care for those struggling with addiction. Through this foundation, we hope to continue Gavin’s legacy of compassion and help others to find their path to recovery.

Gavin will be deeply missed but will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
