Frances (May) Jenkins Newbold

Our patient, loving, kind, and compassionate mother and wife, Frances May Jenkins Newbold, age 92, died September 3, 2018, at South Ogden, Utah, from causes related to age. She made her home at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living for the past 9 months. Prior to that, her home was in South Jordan, Utah since 1997. She was born in Riverton, Utah on March 15, 1926, the tenth of twelve children born to Fred Hunter May and Frances Anderson Brown. She attended schools in Riverton, West Jordan, and graduated from Jordan High School. On September 25, 1946, she married Orren Leonard Jenkins in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Crescent, Utah, and had a neighborhood store on the first floor which became the gathering place for neighbors to catch up on the news.

During their farming years she participated with Orren in farm work as needed and together kept a large garden. It was here they raised their 6 children. Orren died in 1993. They were married for 47 years. Frances was an excellent baker. Her homemade rolls and lemon meringue pies were the hit at every family event. In the fall you could find her in the kitchen canning fruits, vegetables and making fruit leather. She loved to quilt, read, and had a great appreciation for fine literature. She had a delightful sense of humor and her laugh was contagious.

Frances was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership and teaching positions. Her love for singing in the church choir and with her sisters was a great joy in her life. She looked forward to the time when she and her twin sister would get together and style their hair. Their laughter would fill the room. They were together when they came into this world and Aunt Florence was there when she left. After 8 years of being widowed, Frances met an old friend and school mate, Reed Charles Newbold while serving in the Jordan River Temple.

They were married April 21, 2001. They loved spending their winter months in St. George where they served a mission in the Church Membership Department. They loved to travel and see the sights and visit family. She was so happy when the Newbold family took her in. She loved each and every one of his family. Frances was a helpmeet to her husbands and gave all her love and service to them.

She is survived by her husband, Reed; her five children, Glenn (Kathlene) Jenkins, Douglas Jenkins, Doyle (Kathy) Jenkins, Marian (Gary) Griffiths, Sherilyn (Robert) Idle; 23 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Florence May Nix, and Kathryn May Petersen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Orren Leonard Jenkins; daughter, Margaret Kastanis; granddaughters, Melissa Kastanis, Chrissy Kastanis, and Sierra Newbold; grandsons, Patrick Meehan, Jacob Griffiths, Clint Kastanis, and Riley Jenkins; daughter-in-law, Renay Jenkins.
