Floy L Nelson

Obituary

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Floy L. Nelson, departed from this life Thursday, August 29, 2019.

Floy was born on July 28, 1921 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Clifford Lewis Whiteis and Ollie Maude Herr. She was an only child raised in Arkansas by three strong independent women, her Mother, Grandmother and Aunt Ada. She attended business school in Little Rock, Arkansas where she learned the skills that lead her to work in Washington DC. Shortly after she met the love of her life in NYC, Gordan Johnson Nelson, who was there working for the US Government. They moved to Ogden, Utah together and were married on October 13,1942, and were later sealed in the LDS temple in SLC. Gordan was drafted into the US Army which led her to many different cities and states until they finally settled in SLC, Utah in 1950 where they raised their family.

Floy was a very dedicated and hard worker, she was known for her great work ethic. She worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for the majority of her life and later retired from there. She also worked part time for many years for the State of Utah, Department of Agriculture. She attended River Bend Senior Citizen Center where she made lots of new friends and was a member of the Red Hat Club. She received an award for all of her volunteer hours while there.

Floy was known for her flashy jewelry and love of wearing bright colors. She was always up with the current trends and had her hair and nails done. She loved animals and always took the time to smell the roses she planted. She had quite the green thumb. She had an unconditional love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always attended every activity she was able to. Arts and crafts and reading stories are memories we will all hold on to.

Floy's family would like to send a special "thank you" to the care and compassion and support shown by Nurse Tracy and staff of First Choice Hospice in her final days. As well as Dr. Vitale and staff at the Moran Eye Center.

Floy is survived by son Ron Nelson and daughters Karen Eells and Teri Wilcox. Grandchildren Michelle (Troy), Kimberly (Ed), Brenda, Brian (Brooke), Shane, Byron, and Jennifer (Larry). And great grandchildren Paige, Hannah, Diesel, Bailey, Mason, Briggs, Ashlynn, and Brilee.
