Floy Harper

Floy Nielsen Harper, age 97, entered Heaven's gates Sunday evening, February 25, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Floy was born in Jensen, Utah on September 17, 1920 to Wealthy May Bacon and John Jesse Nielsen. She grew up in the Unitah Basin and had many wonderful memories of good times spent with her three sisters and one brother. This closeness and true friendship with them lasted throughout their lifetimes. At the age of 9 her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada where she graduated from high school. After graduation she moved to St. George, Utah with her parents and began working as a waitress in a cafe that her mother managed. This is where she met Ross Edmond Harper. Ross and Floy began their married life on December 24, 1940 and made their first home in St. George. In 1958 they moved to Levan, Utah where they had purchased a farm. It is here where they spent the rest of their lives and enjoyed 67 years together. They have been blessed with five children who learned much from their great examples and who treasure them dearly.

Floy had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and over the years became very involved serving in several organizations. She was a visiting teacher for close to 50 years and also spent Tuesday afternoons for many years quilting with the Levan Ward Relief Society. Many quilts have her beautiful stitches in them.

Family and friends were Floy's passion and delight. She enjoyed the many wonderful times spent with her immediate family as well as her extended family members and looked forward to the next time as soon as each event was over. She especially enjoyed camping at Fish Lake each summer and only missed twice in the last 35 years. This past summer she was still able to go camping one more time and enjoy the campfire with her family. Family times were always a special occasion for her.

She was an avid sports fan and never missed a Jazz game on TV. She could talk sports to anyone and even knew the names of so many players. The men in her life always enjoyed the conversations she had discussing the games or the players. She always had her favorites, and we knew which ones she didn't much care for or what the coaches could have done differently.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Diane Harper, grandson, Dustin Diamond, a great-grandson, Riley Harper, sisters Opal Jensen, Alta Hafen, and a brother, Weldon Nielsen. She is survived by her 100-year old sister, Venice Westman and children John Harper of West Valley, Ron (Noreen) Harper of Levan, Susan (Blair) Painter of Nephi, Shirlee (Phil) Diamond of Salem, Brent (Debbie) Harper of Green River, Wyoming, 18 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

The family gives CVMC, especially Dr. Mark Oveson, and everyone else who cared for Floy their greatest gratitude.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Levan 1st Ward Church. A viewing will be held at 9:30 am prior to the services. Burial will be at the Levan City Cemetery.
