Florene Wilson Jensen was born on Easter Sunday, March 31, 1925, to Lucy and Deloy Nielsen in Salina, Utah. She passed away on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, at the age of 100 in Orem. She was born shortly after her twin sister Ileene.
She grew up in Salina and has many fond memories of growing up there with her parents, her twin and her little sister Mildred. They lived in the back part of her Grandma Nielsen’s home. The girls spent many hours with their Grandma and Aunt Vilda learning homemaking skills. These skills blessed our family throughout her life. She learned to say Yah from this Danish grandmother. She also loved visiting her Tooth Grandparents and family in Manti.
The twins were very talented artists. They won many art contests while growing up. She and Ileene did most things together. She loved her twin sister. They were best friends. The twins were very hard workers. They worked in the beet fields as children thinning beats. Then during World War II, they worked at the Parachute plant in Manti.
She lived in Salina until she and Ileene moved to Provo to attend BYU. Mom majored in art. While attending college Mom and Ileene worked at a nearby boarding house serving meals to the guests. That is where she met the love of her life, Bob Wilson.
They dated until Dad went into the Navy. She waited for him for the two years that he served his country in the Marshall Islands, in the Pacific, during World War II. They married April 27, 1946, up Rock Canyon, Provo, Utah, where Bob’s parents lived. It was a beautiful springtime wedding. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on March 31, 1965, where they were surrounded and sealed to their 8 children.
They started their family right away and were joined by Grace Ann, Phyllis, Kent, Terry, Larry, Becky, Jim and lastly our sweet baby Ronnie. Ronnie lived 2 1⁄2 years. Mom died on Ronnie’s birthday. She had missed 60 years of his birthdays, but not this year.
Mom and Dad also helped raise Phyllis’ son Johnnie. They have 29 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren with one on the way and 70 great-great grandchildren with 2 on the way.
Mom and Dad lived many different places including Provo, Nephi, Elsinore, Pleasant Grove, Orem and Mona.
Mom loved people. She loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had many callings including teaching the Mia Maids, teaching the Sunbeams in Primary, singing with The Singing Mothers, Relief Society Presidency, quilting committee and visiting teacher. She loved the gospel and her scriptures which she wore out.
Mom also loved genealogy. She knew her ancestors and Bob’s. She loved them. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers for many many years.
She was a fabulous cook and wonderful homemaker.
On November 16, 1991, she married Harold Jensen and moved to Gunnison where she spent the last 33 years of her life until she could no longer walk. Harold and Mom enjoyed many wonderful trips together. She was able to go to Denmark and then Norway to pick up Harold’s grandson from his mission.
She spent many hours reading and talking on the phone to our family. She was always giving, caring, loving, helpful, considerate and compassionate. She was a blessing to our families helping us out in our times of need. She always put the needs of others before herself. She loved and cared about everyone she met. We feel so blessed to have had this great woman in our lives for so many years.
She lived at the Orem Rehabilitation and Care Center for the last year of her life and the Nephi hospital for 3 months before that. We are so very grateful to the staff at these facilities for the loving care that they gave to our mother
She is survived by her children Grace Ann (Ray) Hallam of Santaquin, Kent (Glenna) Wilson of Myton, Terry Wilson of West Jordan, Larry Wilson of West Jordan, Becky (Jeff) Kouns of Mona, Jim (Penny) Wilson of Goshen and many of her grandchildren, great and great-greats.
She is preceded in death by her parents, twin sister Ileene, sister Mildred, both husbands, Bob and Harold, daughter Phyllis, son Ronnie, son-in-law Dave Johnson, daughter-in-law Willy Wilson and grandchildren Chris, Terri, Tina, Sativa & Garrett.
