On February 17, 2023 our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather returned to his Heavenly Father and a joyous reunion of loved ones eagerly awaiting his return.

Ferris was born May 1, 1938, to Orpha I. Johnson and Elmer Wilford Hayes in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In 1958 he served a 2 1/2-year mission to Argentina where he shared his love of the gospel. He retained his Spanish throughout his life and enjoyed speaking with anyone he could converse with in his beloved second language.

Upon returning from Argentina, he married his sweetheart, Barbara Thomas in the Salt Lake Temple on January 26, 1962, and they just celebrated 61 years of marriage. They have 5 wonderful children, 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Ferris graduated from the University of Utah with a master’s in mathematics. He loved to teach and taught for 36 years; 16 at Granger High School, 13 in Winlock, WA, and 6 years for the University of Utah in their continuing education department. After his retirement, he continued as a substitute teacher for another 14 years. He loved his students and left a positive impact on many of them.

He loved showing his Great Pyrenees and Beagles and became a professional handler showing many different breeds of dogs. Many weekends and summer months were spent together as a family traveling around the western states.

Having served many positions in the church, he especially loved serving as bishop as he could work with the youth. He and Barbara also served a Washington-Tacoma mission, Guest service missionaries on Temple Square and the Conference center for five years.

Ferris is survived by his Eternal Companion, Barbara, Stanwood, WA; Five children: Michelle Moses (Bill deceased), Santa Ana CA; Gareth, Burlington, WA; Karla Taylor (Steve), South Jordan, UT; Theron (Lilly), Ventura, CA; Robert (Karla), Stanwood, WA: Brothers Kenneth Adams (Margie), Fort Union UT; Paul Adams (Michelle) West Valley City, UT; Sister Sandra Jeffs, Eugene, OR. He is deceased by his parents and two brothers, Gregory Adams, West Valley City, UT and Terry Hayes, Washington, UT.

Services will be held on February 25, 2023, at the Jordan North 6th Ward, 3836 W 4100 S, West Valley, UT. The viewing will be held from 10am to 11am, the funeral will run from 11:30am to 12:30pm followed by a luncheon. The interment will be at Memorial Estates Mountain View, 3115 E Bengal Blvd, Cottonwood Heights, UT at 2:30pm.
