Fausto Rivas Sr.

Fausto Rivas Sr. passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021, surrounded by family which he loved dearly and valued the most. Born in Michoacán, Mexico, Fausto arrived in the United States at a very young age, seeking opportunities of the American dream. He retired from Kennecott Copper after 35 years of employment, while also creating entrepreneurship opportunities in a successful Construction Company and the popular Rivas Café in West Jordan, Utah, later relocating to Midvale, as El Sombrero Restaurant.

Fausto's heart and soul was in the city of Midvale. He was very proud of the close friendships he created and especially proud of being the Founder and President of Midvale Cinco De Mayo Celebration since 1988, which he actively participated in up to the day of his passing.

Fausto received several honorable awards recognizing his efforts within the Mexican Community such as the Consulado de Mexico OHTLI award, the Centro Civico Mexicano Ignacio Zaragoza award and more.

His passion was creating events that would showcase his rich Mexican Culture and giving back to others. His love for Mariachi Music was indescribable! He loved wearing his handmade Mariachi suits and sombreros while singing songs from Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Javier Solis, and Miguel Aceves Mejia just to name a few! His all-time favorite songs to sing were "El Rey," "Muchacha Bonita," "Juan Colorado," and "Mexico Lindo y Querido."

He is now reunited in heaven with his daughter Juanita and is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores Rivas, and their children: Fausto Rivas Jr. (Jackie), Ruben Rivas, Tony Rivas (Sandy), Suzanne Rivas-Valle (Gabriel), Dolores Pahl (Michael), his grandchildren- Jeremy Rivas (Amanda), Jose Rincon (Maria), Sophia Torres (Juan), Jesus Lopez, Juanita Rivas, Daniela Lopez, TJ Rivas, Jessica Rivas, Rebecca Medina (Leo), Alex Rivas, Sonia Lopez, Gabriel Valle, Dylan Rivas, Erica Valle (Mason), Alejandro Lopez (Hannah), Veronica Valle, and Maximus Rivas.
