Evelyn Joann Fields

Evelyn JoAnn Fields, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 1, 2021.  She was 77.

JoAnn was born on February 20, 1944, in Murray, Utah to Norman Reginald Carlsen and Marjorie Adele Johnson.  She was the fourth of five children born to her loving parents. JoAnn graduated from Jordan High School in 1962.

She had a career in the insurance industry and thoroughly enjoyed her job helping customers and companies find the specific type of insurance they needed.  However, her greatest joy was her children, Kelly Ann Kramer and Steven Gentry Kramer, and her seven grandchildren.

Grandma JoAnn was known for her generous gift-giving.  She delighted in finding creative and fun toys for her grandchildren and in buying them beautiful clothes to wear.  She spent many holidays and much of her vacation time with her children.  She had a quiet dignity about her and will always be remembered for her favorite saying, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

Her second passion was gardening.  She especially loved her roses.  When she wasn't nurturing and cultivating flowers, she spent many years involved in Lakefair, a charitable organization in Olympia, Washington which raises scholarship money for youth.

JoAnn also loved to travel.  She and her late husband, Eugene Fields, lived in Spain for three years and traveled through as much of Europe and the surrounding areas as time would allow.

For the last ten years, she lived in Salt Lake City and spent many holidays and birthdays with her children and grandchildren.  We are so grateful for the years that we had with her.

JoAnn is survived by her children, Kelly Ann Stephenson and son-in-law Brent Stephenson and their five children, Carly Reid, Mikele Rumbaugh, Aly, Lauren, and Jace Stephenson.  Also by her daughter-in-law, Rebekah Kramer, and her two children, Elaina and Olivia.  She is also survived by her four great-grandsons and by her siblings, Norman Carlsen, Elliott Carlsen, and Marjean (Jeannie) Bair.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her late husband, Eugene Fields, her beloved son, Steven Gentry Kramer, and her parents Norman and Marjorie Carlsen, and brother Deloy Carlsen.

JoAnn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a great love and reverence for God.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 11:00 am at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Millcreek, Utah 84106.  There will be a viewing from 6-7:30 pm on Friday, March 5, 2021, at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah 84047.  We will be wearing masks and social distancing.
