Enid Mae Enniss

Enid Mae Enniss was born on October 19, 1941, to Elmer Marr and Beatrice Mae Osborne Enniss and passed away on February 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends. A lifelong educator, coach, and advocate, Enid was a pioneer for girls' sports equity in Utah.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in Health Education and a Master’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, and Counseling from Brigham Young University. She dedicated her career to teaching and coaching in the Jordan and Granite School Districts and at the University of Utah. Enid played a pivotal role in securing official recognition for girls’ high school sports in Utah through the Utah High School Activities Association, paving the way for greater opportunities for female athletes.

Enid’s love for teaching and mentoring extended beyond the classroom and playing field. She had a profound influence on her students, colleagues, and family. Known as the “Fun Aunt,” she created lasting memories with her nieces and nephews—taking them boating, golfing, swimming, and on adventures to the beach, zoos, aquariums, and SeaWorld.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Enid had a deep passion for softball, golf, gymnastics, and tennis. She helped lay the foundation for Title IX in Utah, working to eliminate barriers for women and girls in sports, education, and professional careers. Her commitment to athletics led her to co-found The Racqueteer Sport and Fitness Center in Sandy, Utah, with a close friend.

In addition to her contributions to sports, Enid was deeply committed to family history. She played a key role in the Draper History Book series, served as Chairwoman of the Enniss Memorial in Draper, and was instrumental in naming a local peak in the Wasatch Mountains in honor of her family’s legacy.

Enid was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Mac Enniss and Reid (Delpha) Enniss; and sisters Vonna (Harold) Vawdrey and Vae (Merlyn) Dansie. She is survived by her brother Chip (Gaylene) Enniss, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Her legacy of advocacy, love for learning, and unwavering dedication to her family and students will continue to inspire generations to come.
