Emerito "Eme" Barcelona Manglinong (age 87) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 23, 2021. He was born in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines on January 21, 1934 to Ambrosio Motas and Susana Barcelona Manglinong. He married Perla AlfonsoTubig and together they had 5 children. While in the Philippines, he graduated from FEATI University with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He immigrated to America in 1969 and worked in California for 2 years. He then settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, and established himself with the Union Pacific Railroad. After 4 long years, hard work and determination, his family finally arrived in America. Once here, they all received citizenship and he was very proud of them. After 28 years as a dedicated master tuner of locomotives, he finally retired to enjoy his many passions and family.
Eme loved fishing, sports and gardening. He enjoyed basketball season and watching the Jazz play. When his children were young, he often took them fishing to Rockport and Strawberry reservoirs on his days off as their family outings. In his later years, camping and fishing at Flaming Gorge over Memorial Day weekend with family and close friends became a tradition. He was a master gardener; he took great pride in creating and maintaining his immaculate yard, especially his spiral shaped trees. Because of which, he won the City Beautification Award many times over the years. Also, he had a hidden love for music and dancing. These passions have been passed down to his children and grandchildren. Above all, he considered family the greatest value in life; he encouraged his children and grandchildren to pursue higher education and to live the American dream.
He is survived by Perla Tubig, his wife of 63 years; children Roberto "Rhomie", Rebecca "Becky" (Robert) Calacino, Marilyn Brown, Emerito Jr "John" (Rochelle) and Edwin; grandchildren Clinton McDaniel, Ryan (Becca) McDaniel, Justin (Nittaya) McDaniel, Stephanie Calacino, Jasmine Brown, Tanner Manglinong, Kelsey (Preston) Manglinong, Colby (Marissa) Manglinong and Connor Manglinong; and great-grandchildren Jordan McDaniel and Eme Rose Manglinong.
