Emeline Johnson

Emeline Johnson, 90, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on February 21, 2016 in South Jordan, Utah. She was born on September 7, 1925 in Holden, Utah to Carl S. and Amanda Stephenson Johnson.

Emeline moved with her family to Midvale when she was 5 years old. Her father built a home for his family on Pioneer Street and Emeline lived there the rest of her life. She and her mother lived together until her mom passed away in 1970. Emeline loved her home and was an avid gardener. She received an award from Midvale City for having the loveliest landscaping.

After graduating from Jordan High School in 1943, she went to work for Kearns Air Base the next Monday. After her mission to the East Central States (October 1950 to March 1952), she began her career in banking with The Sandy City Bank, which later became Walker Bank. At Walker Bank, she worked as a Teller and them became the first ever women Operations Director. Later when Walker Bank merged and became First Interstate Bank, she became the first women Auditor.

Emeline was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served in many callings, usually having something to do with music. She served in the Mong Branch in Midvale and loved the Mong people.

Emeline was a loving sister to her siblings. She and her sister Ann were very close and loved to sing and perform whenever they could. Emeline was the best aunt to all her nieces and nephews. She was devoted to them all, involved in their lives and her home was always open to them. Many of them lived with her at one time or another. She was a strong, independent woman and a wonderful example to all of her family. We all love her dearly!

Survived by her brother, Bevan Johnson; 15 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Deral and Melvin (Dayma); sisters, Ann (Woody) Sybrowsky and Zola (Roy) Crum; sister-in-law, Ruth Johnson.

Many thanks to Utah Home and Hospice for their loving care.
