It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce to the world the passing of the patriarch of our family.
Eliasime Gallegos, 85, a loving husband and our dad, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully May 4, 2016 with his family by his side after a long tough fight with Alzheimer's Disease. Our dad was a strong and tough as nails individual that fought this disease till the very end.
Eliasime was born July 14, 1930, in Servilleta Plaza, New Mexico, U.S.A., to Rosa Griego and Elias Gallegos. He was raised by his grandparents, Luciano and Bivanita Gallegos.
Although he was raised during hard and tough times, he never gave up and chose to leave his hometown at a very young age to better himself.
He moved to Bingham Canyon, Utah, to work at Kennecott Copper Mine. He made this job his lifelong occupation and retired as a locomotive train engineer after 37 years of service.
Eliasime proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was proud he became a 101st Airborne "Screamin' Eagle" Division paratrooper and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
After moving to Utah and being discharged from the military, he met and married Martha Gallegos on June 20, 1959. Together they had three children and were married for over 55 years, until her passing on Nov. 5, 2014. Her death devastated our dad and he missed her tremendously. She was always there for our dad and without her presence he felt lost and not knowing what to do now with his life. Few experience the love and joy of two people who love one another and have achieved something as the result of a great, shared effort.
Eliasime had many loves in his life, but one he stuck to was hard work. He loved to work and provide for his family. He tried to always be there for his family whether they needed financial help, advice on life, or anything he could help them with. Family extended way past his wife and kids. He helped all family members. He never forgot where he came from and who he was. He longed for the good old days and people he missed from his past.
Eliasime loved grandkids, a good hot cup of coffee, bacon and eggs, steak dinner, chocolate, peaches from his yard, taking care of his yard, a good ball game on TV, horses, Cadillacs, and again a good days hard work. He was a lifelong member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Survived by his sons, Eddie and Ricky (Cheri); grandchildren, Chaz (Dez), and Cheany; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by wife, Martha; son, Freddie; mother and father; grandfather and grandmother.
We are grateful for the many acts of kindness and service by those who cared for our dad. You people know who you are. A special thank you to Mr. Chaz Gallegos, who spent great time and effort to be there for his grandpa.
The world again is shining less bright for us as a family, but Eliasime faced the challenges and successes in his life with dignity, hard work and dedication. He felt good about what he did in life and wanted others to feel the same. He will be deeply missed by his family, but we take great comfort in knowing his wife Martha has welcomed him home. We look forward to being with them again. May his memory be eternal. Rest in peace.
