Edwin Gordon (Hap) Homer died peacefully at his home in Wanship, Utah on Monday, June 19, 2023.
Hap was the first son born to Hyrum Edwin (Ted) and Macel Gordon Homer. He was raised on the beautiful family farm nestled against the Weber River in Wanship. This is how he developed a strong work ethic and where he worked along side of his family for more than 90 years.
He attended school in the old Wanship Elementary through grade 7 and high school at North Summit in Coalville, Utah.
He often spoke of herding sheep from the Chalk Creek Basin into the Weber Canyon. Those summers are where many of his best stories originated.
In 1950 he was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served on Active duty during the Korean War for nearly two years.
When he returned home, he worked in the Park City mines for a year before beginning a career with Mountain Fuel Supply in Salt Lake City. He worked there for 31 years and retired at age 57.
He met his eternal sweetheart, Mirla in Kamas, Utah. He proposed on Valentine’s Day and they were married June 6, 1953. This year they celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary. Their marriage was later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1987.
Together Hap and Mirla raised two children, a daughter, Linda and a son, Wade. As a young family, they spent time fishing and camping at Blue and Beth Lakes. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially the annual deer hunt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mirla, and their two children, Linda (Kent) Jones, Wade (Jennifer) Homer, 8 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren, and a brother, Jerry (Myrna) Homer. Preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Betty Homer Wilde and Beth Homer Kirkham.
This gentle giant of a man touched countless lives in his near 95 years. He was loved and respected by all that knew him. He will be remembered and missed daily, until we meet again.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 12:00 noon in the Wanship LDS Church. Viewings will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm and Friday prior to services from 10:45-11:45 am at the church.
Interment will be at Wanship Cemetery with military honors.
