Duane S. Guymon passed away on April 10, 2017. He was born on October 11, 1929 in Orangeville, Utah.
As a young man he developed a great work ethic while working beside his father on their farm. He was a proficient speller and enjoyed singing with the school choruses.
He graduated from South Emery High School, Carbon College (College of Eastern Utah), and Brigham Young University where he majored in Agronomy.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Southwest Indian Mission in Arizona and New Mexico. After returning home, he served in the army at the time of the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. After the war, he worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Arizona. Later, he did post graduate work at the University of Utah and Utah State University.
He married Charlotte Skofield in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 9, 1962. They resided in West Valley City for almost 30 years where they raised their 3 daughters.
Duane worked as a Middle School and High School science teacher in the Jordan School District for 31 years.
He served in various callings at church, but his favorite calling was a Home Teacher. He enjoyed visiting with people while sharing stories about his mission and army experiences.
Duane is survived by his three daughters; Carol (James) Elwell, LeeAnn (John) Elmer, and Elaine (Michael) Turnbow, 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and sisters Uneta and Patricia.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, his parents William and Una Guymon, his sisters Vearl, Ruth, DelOra, and Gwen, and his brother Jay.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah. Funeral services will be held at the Lakeview LDS Ward Chapel, 2032 Churchwood Drive, Pine Canyon (Tooele), Utah on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior.
Interment will be at Valley View Memorial Park, 4335 W 4100 S, West Valley City, UT.
