He had a wonderful sense of humor and used it in almost every situation.

Don was a professional musician who played for parties, dances, and church activities, funerals and church meetings all his life. Don played the organ in the Jordan River Temple and played piano at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for ten years, and at the Church Conference Center for events held there. He was also an accomplished artist and spent many years doing Family History work and submitting many names for ordinance work.

Among Don's professional activities and honors as an educator, Don served as president of the Utah Association of Principals and president of the Utah Association of Teacher Educators. He taught at BYU and was given an Associate Professorship in Educational Law.
