Dr. David E. Nilsson

David Earl Nilsson passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, in the Summit Memory Care Center after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease and lung cancer.  He was born on June 17, 1948, in Murray, Utah, to proud parents, William Leslie Nilsson and Maurine Tripp Nilsson.

He was raised in Midvale and graduated from Hillcrest High School before serving in the French Canadian Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prior to his mission and upon returning home, he attended the University of Utah where he graduated with a BS in Psychology in 1972, Masters of Psychology in 1975 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1978.

Dave was fascinated by the brain and how it worked.  He subsequently focused his practice on Neuropsychology and was well respected in that field, helping many brain injured patients find their way back to their new normalcy. He spent more than thirty years in private practice treating children, adolescents, and adults as well as training other physicians and health care providers in neurobehavioral-neurocognitive disorders.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sharon Shelton Nilsson, and his three children; Britta Bruderer (Scott), Kiersten Swindle, and Erik Nilsson and 5 grandchildren; Ben, Cole, Will, Scott and Kate. He is also survived by his brother Mark (Robyn), sisters, Sharon (Steve), Ruth (Bob) and Leslie (Mark). He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Maurine Nilsson.

We would like to give a special thanks to the caregivers at Summit Memory Care and to his wife, Sharon, who spent many hours giving loving care to Dave up until the very end.

We also extend thanks to Goff Mortuary for their professional care and concern and assisting with preparation for these arrangements.

Friends and family may gather for a visitation on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 6:00pm until 7:00pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah 84047.  There will be an open microphone at 7:00pm for any who wish to share a favorite memory of Dave.
