Doyle Dee Harris, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away on May 15, 2015 in Sandy, Utah and was reunited with his wife and loved ones. He was born June 27, 1932 in Sugar City, Idaho to Charles Henry and Maude R. Jones Harris.
He was the second to youngest of 10 children and was taught the value of hard work and responsibility at an early age. Growing up he had a talent and love for playing sports. He was Co-Captain of the football team for Sugar Salem High School and played as halfback on offense. He was fast and his brothers and sisters enjoyed watching him play. He was also captain of the Basketball team where he played guard. His great shot and sportsmanship earned him a spot on the Ricks College Basketball team. He was well liked growing up by all who new him and was voted Class President his Senior year.
He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952 - 1953. After his service he returned home to Sugar City, Idaho.
He later moved to Sandy, Utah where he worked with his older brother Lamoyne and learned and mastered the skills of carpentry. There he met Coral Nelson and on July 17, 1962 they were married in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they raised a family of 9 children. From 1972 - 2010 he ran the Doyle D. Harris Company, General Building and built many homes with great pride. He was very talented in carpentry and his work always reached the highest standards as a builder. He took great pride in his work and made sure it was done right.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had a strong testimony of its truthfulness and the happiness and peace it brings into your life by living it. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served and helped many throughout his life. He served diligently in his calling as financial clerk for 16 years. His greatest love in his life was his wife, children and grandchildren and he worked tirelessly to teach, love and support them. Along with his wife, he taught his 9 children and 18 grandchildren the importance of hard work, integrity, and living the gospel. He did this by his example and always stood true to his beliefs. He was known for his work ethic and integrity. He had a strong will, but had a special way about him that was loved by all that knew him. We will miss your sense of humor and the sound of your yells, but most of all your unconditional love that you gave us. Your 3 squeezes will truly be missed. We love you DAD, GRANDPA.
He is survived by his children, Jamie Harman (Jeremy), Sandy, UT; Lance Harris (Hillary), Herriman, UT; Heath Harris (Charlotte) Salt Lake City, UT; Deena Harris, Sandy, UT; Kleete Harris (Brooke), McAllen, TX; Jared Harris (Carisa), So. Jordan, UT; Karee (Mike), So. Jordan, UT; Tate Harris, Sandy, UT; Ladd Harris (Marina), Pinehurst, SC; grandchildren, Ashlee, Allison, Josie, Abbey, Savanah, Kenton, McKelle, Avilynn, Jeisa, Cache, Austin, Jordan, Haydon, Alexa, Rylan, Raeya, Madison, and Damon, He was the "Lone Survivor," preceded in death by his wife Coral, parents, six sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Mount Jordan 2nd Ward, 9331 South 300 East. Viewings will be Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, and Thursday 10-10:45 a.m. at the church.
