Douglas Brent Lowe

Douglas Brent Lowe was born in Salt Lake City, UT on April 26, 1950. He passed away in Nephi, UT on October 11, 2024.

Doug was a jovial person around others... always starting up conversation with friends or total strangers alike when there was time (and sometimes even when there wasn't hehe). Even though he did like to chat with people who would cross his path, at his core, he was a homebody. He liked to be home after a day's work... and either relax to his tunes... or watch one of his shows or movies that he was fond of. His family succeeded in getting him to go outside and throw the ball around or shoot some hoops, maybe even go for a swim when they lived on Wilson Street. Later on in life, he liked to go fishing and didn't seem to mind too much if he was skunked. One thing that was always a challenge, though, and remained that way until the day he moved on from this life, was getting Doug to play a board or card game. He could be so stubborn sometimes ;) 

Doug was a loving husband, a devoted father, an awesome brother and an upstanding son. One thing people around him never wondered about, was how much he loved him or her. He was always expressing his appreciation. Especially at the end, during his battle with cancer, it was so cute and sometimes comical how he would constantly tell those around him how much he loved them... and the way his face would light up when he recognized someone was so precious to those who got to witness it.  

Doug was never a prideful person... usually poking fun at himself in more ways than one... which usually endeared him to others. This is not to say that he did not take pride in many things because he most certainly did. He was proud to serve his country in the US Coast Guard, even though, after his first enlistment, he felt inspired to serve an LDS mission, and ended up being called to serve in the Philippines. He then continued in his military service and was proud of his 20 year career and service. He was proud of having been able to reach the highest possible rank for an enlisted service member, attaining the rank of Master Chief before he retired in 1996. He was proud of having been able to continue that military tradition in the Lowe family (which his son, Derek, has carried on after him with a career in the US Air Force), and of the friendly rivalry he and his dad, Clarence, shared... after Clarence dutifully and proudly served in the US Navy during World War 2. They used to rib each other about who had it rougher on the open seas... and we always remember Doug looking back fondly on those "debates". 

To continue, Doug was always proud of his wife, Elena, who he was sealed to for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 12, 1976. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elena, and his four sons, Douglas Clarence, Derek Brian, David Joseph and Dallin Alfred. Later on in his life, he was proud of his daughter in law and grandsons... Heather (who Dougy married in 2003) and their two sons, Damian and Brandon. Derek had the other two grandsons, Dallas and Davin. He was extremely proud of all of his family, which later came to include Damian's wife Hannah as well. 

Doug was also extremely proud of doing his best to be a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as a church missionary again, this time with Elena, from 2014-2016. Even the last day we remember him being able to speak, he was always remarking and wanting people to know that he had a simple but powerful testimony in our Heavenly Father and in His Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He made us laugh because even though he wasn't able to comfortably form a sentence or thought, he was able to pray, which he constantly wanted to do. It brings us comfort to know that Doug has been reunited with his Father in Heaven and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as family who have gone before him. No doubt it has been a joyful reunion.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, October 25th at 11:00 AM at the Utah Veteran's Memorial Park Chapel, 17111 S. Camp Williams Rd., Bluffdale, UT.
