Doris Joanne Schultz Mason (Jody)

Doris Joanne Schultz Mason (Jody), daughter of William Howard Schultz and Beryl Arlene Lewis died Sunday October 27th, 2024 in Draper, Utah from complications of old age at 94y 5m 22d.

She was born in Ann Arbor Michigan May 5th, 1930. She lived her first fourteen years in southeastern Michigan where, in the early 1940’s, she learned piano, figure skated, played tennis, and assisted her uncle in his veterinary practice. Around 1944, she and her mother relocated to southern California to live with her great uncle, an English immigrant born in 1864. She attended high school in Whittier, California, and nursing school in Sacramento, California. She worked as a U.S. Navy nurse during the Korean War, stationed first in San Diego, California, then on the island of Guam. It was there she married Navy sailor David LeRoy Mason in 1953. After years in Nebraska, California, Colorado, Nebraska, and California, she moved to Utah in 2010. Nursing was always her passion, and long after she quit practicing she would frequently tell people that she was an RN. Her other passion was genealogy. She started collecting family information in the 1950’s and tracing heredity back to the Mayflower, Plymouth colony, English servants, coal miners, and lace makers, and English and German aristocrats.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Rose Oliva Mason of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law Edward Kohel Jr. and his wife Rhonda of Kearny, Nebraska; her four children Kathleen Ann Mason (Flanigan), Robert Alan Mason, Barbara Liane Mason (Myers), all of Utah, Douglas Evan Mason of Auburn, California; thirteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
