Doris June Christensen Beck passed away December 16. She was born to Peter Daniel Christensen and Ida May Phillips June 6, 1925 in Riverton, Utah. She attended Utah State, Stanford, and graduated from the University of Utah in English literature. She was an educator for 31 years, primarily in Murray School District. The perfect cursive writing she taught her third graders was widely admired in her correspondence. She loved words and had spot-on spelling as well as a deep vocabulary.
Doris married Joseph Ulrich Hatfield Beck in 1950, and they raised four children. That was after her plan to go to college "forever" didn't prove realistic. Her many talents revolved around her love of history, language, sewing and art. Doris' numerous landscape oil paintings grace many walls today. (Remember, great-grandkids: "Don't put the sun in the corner of your picture!")
An ability to find humor in difficult situations-and giggle-only hinted at her strong independence and inner strength. For nearly 30 years she thoroughly enjoyed her LDS genealogical mission transcribing old European documents.
Doris is survived by her brother Alan Christensen and sister La Rae (Glenn) Hill and her children Dane Beck (Susan Hawkins), Kelley Beck (Dana Howells), Marcie McIntosh (Michael), as well as her stepson Michael Fletcher (Suzanne Tornquist). She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Her daughter January Beck Nak Rasmussen died in 1981 and her husband Joe in 2006. She was also preceded in death by brothers Dan and Lowell, and sister Mavis.
Funeral services will be Thursday, December 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, UT. Visitation will begin an hour before at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 So.
