Donna Bagley Olcott

Born December 30th, 1947 in Murray, Utah,
Donna Passed over to the other side, peacefully, on May 12th, 2022 in Sandy, Utah at 74 years of age.
Donna is survived by her daughter, Kellie Olcott Diamond (Wesley Kaufman, Son in Law), her grandchildren, Sonya Diamond, Alisia (Bug) Diamond and Marissa Diamond and her great grandchildren Jaylinn Lottie, Jordan Mulvey, Janessa Diamond, Gavin Diamond and Mason Diamond. She is also survived by her brother, Grant Bagley and Sister-in-Law, Margaret Bagley, her brother John Bagley and Her chosen sister and good friend, Judy Madill, her neices and nephews; Susan Munn, David Bagley, John Paul Bagley, Steven Seghini, Edward Seghini, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn B. Seghini, her parents, Benedict Bagley and Marie P. Bagley and her great grandson, Preston Diamond.
Donna was a loving mother and grandmother and had many lasting friendships. Her loss will be felt by a great number of those who bonded and connected with her. She was so down to earth and she could find good in anyone. She was not judgmental and because of that, she was able to form strong bonds with people from all walks of life. She was easy to talk to and was genuinely interested in the stories of everyone she met. Donna was kind and generous and was always ready and willing to help others. She was quick witted and loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. She was truly a unique individual who never watered down her big personality because she was not afraid to stand out.
She found employment in 1972 and she remained employed by “Mountain Bell” (their name when she started). She began as a directory assistance operator, then an “O” operator. When that position was phased out, she trained with the same company as a cable repair technician. She learned to climb telephone poles and she climbed into manholes in the middle of busy streets that were crawling with black widows and other creepy, crawly stuff. She willingly and even enthusiastically placed herself in situations that are the stuff of nightmares for most females (and probably most men as well) because she thoroughly enjoyed a challenge. From there, she did other jobs as the company changed and progressed until her retirement.
Her religious organization (Sokka Gakia International) was a big part of her life. She enjoyed connecting with other members at meetings and group activities. She made many longtime friends within the organization and she was often called upon to help newer members through hard times by offering words of encouragement. She was always available to chant (pray) with anyone who needed it. She became a member of Sokka Gokia International in 1974 and has been a devoted leader, a source of inspiration and a guiding light for many during the 48 years that she’s been a practicing Buddhist.
The family plans to dedicate a tree in a protected forest in Flagstaff, Arizona to Donna. Her ashes will be mixed with the native soil and will be spread underneath her tree. They will also plant 50 seedlings in areas in need of reforestation in her name. They will provide a brass marker with her name on it so that family and friends have a memorial marker that can be visited. A dedication ceremony will be held at Better Place Forest in Flagstaff, Arizona, within the next couple of months. Anyone who is interested in attending the ceremony or who just wants information about where her tree will be located may provide a mailing address or email address in the guest book that will be available during her service with a note to indicate your interest and I will make sure that you receive a message with the details as soon as I have them. Donna’s service will be held at Goff Mortuary in Midvale, Utah on Friday May 20th, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
Donna’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Second Chance For Homeless Pets, a local no kill shelter ( https://utahpetadoptions.org ) or to Humane Society of Utah ( https://www.utahhumane.org ).
