Donna Mae Burgon

Our "precious" loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother was called home on February 8, 2017.  Donna was born and raised in South Jordan, Utah to Millie Fontella Hardcastle and James B. Shields on May 21, 1928.  Donna married the love of her life, Guy Burgon "the tall skinny one playing basketball," on January 10, 1947, recently celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by many family members and loved ones.  They were blessed with three daughters: Gaylene, Janet and Debbie.

Donna was absolutely one of a kind.  Our Heavenly Parents created a masterpiece when they created her-she was truly as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.  Sweet, sassy and always using her quick wit and humor, she uplifted and brightened the lives of those around her.  Donna sprinkled joy wherever she went with the twinkle in her eye and her contagious laugh and smile.  Everyone felt like they were the most important person in the world in her presence.  Donna was blessed with the gift of compassion and was full of charity for everyone around her.  Donna literally wore out her body, including her hands, in providing service to her family, neighbors and friends.

Donna and Guy were a match made in heaven.  They provided the perfect example of how a husband and wife should treat and nurture each other.  They were inseparable and loved to share many hobbies together, including playing card and board games.  Donna enjoyed the many trips to San Diego, Catalina Island and other family vacations.  She had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren; she loved to care for them every chance she had.  Whenever she was with her grandchildren, you would find one (or sometimes more) sitting next to her or on her lap.  They loved to hear her stories, jokes and the wonderful and optimistic outlook she always held about life.  Donna suffered much pain and tribulations throughout her life, but she always kept a happy and upbeat outlook on life and never complained about any pain or sufferings that she experienced.  She never forgot a birthday or special event by sending a handwritten card even when her hands made it extremely painful for her to do so.  She always included lots of "xoxoxo" and her trademark flower in each card she sent.

Donna is survived by her husband Guy; her daughters Gaylene (Jay) Nielsen, Janet (Jeff (deceased)) McCarthy and Debbie (Larry) Yates; seven grandchildren (and spouses); 20½ great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters Wanda Naylor and Maxine Clark; sister-in-law Judy Shields; and life-long friend Katie Peterson.  Donna was preceded in death by her parents, James and Millie; her stepfather Mel Green; brothers Ronal, Clive and Jim; sister Wilda; sister-in-law Marjorie Shields; and brothers-in-law Roy Naylor and Ron Clark.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newcastle Ward, 2180 East Meadowlark Way (9120 South), Sandy, Utah, with a viewing 90 minutes prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be at the Midvale City Cemetery, 471 West 7500 South, Midvale, Utah.

Mom and Grandma, words cannot express the love we have for you. Love you, love you to the moon and back. We will take good care of Grandpa. We miss you already, but we know that we will see you again.
