Donald Ray Green

Our precious husband, father, and grandpa, Donald Ray Green, departed from this life on February 5, 2021 at the age of 85. He passed away at his home in Mapleton, Utah, with his family by his side. Don was born July 8, 1935 in the home of his parents, Melvin Porter and Hazel Leona Green, in Joplin, Missouri. He was the second of three children.

He was captain in the R.O.T.C. at Joplin Senior High School. After graduating from Joplin Junior College, he and his brother, Lyle, moved to Huntington Park, California, where Don worked for Continental Canning Corporation as a senior accountant managing payroll and taxes. Don and Lyle were members of the Mormon Youth Choir and soon got to sing with 200 choir students in front of 20,000 spectators at the famous Hollywood Bowl. One of their favorite songs was Oklahoma!

While living in California, he met his lovely sweetheart, Loretta Young. They were married on May 20, 1958 in the LDS Manti Temple. Soon after their marriage, Don was drafted into the Army and was sent to Korea for two years. After discharge from the military, he and Loretta started their family with the birth of their oldest son and later moved to Midvale, Utah, where their family grew with the addition of another son and daughter.

Don did taxes and payroll in addition to working for A&L Concrete for 20 years and then as Treasurer for Midvale City before his retirement. Don was active in his church as a high priest and stake clerk. After retirement, Don, Loretta, and Melanie moved to Mapleton, Utah, where they enjoyed their new home and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2018.

Don is survived by his wife and children: Darren (JoAnn), Bryan, and Melanie. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Alexander (Courtney), Derek (Stephanie), Austin (Rachelle), and Sean Green, as well as his brother Lyle. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Melva.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mapleton White Church at 31 West Maple Street, Mapleton, Utah. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
