Don E. Mickelsen

Don E. Mickelsen, 86, passed away October 5, 2016 in Sandy, UT.  He was born in Murray, UT November 16, 1929 to Elmon and Nora Mickelsen.

Don was raised on a chicken farm in Draper, UT.  He was involved in football, basketball and loved riding his Pinto pony.

He loved to help people in any way he could.

Don later found out working on the farm that his health was affected by the dust in the chicken coops and decided to go to school for Radio Communication, later working in the industry in Utah, Idaho, Washington, and Nevada.

Don met Carolyn Escott and later married her April 5, 1969 in Washington. They moved to Nevada and ran a Telecommunication business and they continued enjoying their life with horses.  They went to horse shows throughout the west.  In 1990, Don and Carolyn sold their business and moved back to Draper, UT.  Then they became snow birds and went to traveling again.

He was a man that could fix or build most anything.  He also enjoyed riding his bicycle on long rides and working on radio towers several hundred feet in the air.  He will be greatly missed by many.

Survived by his children Michele Mickelsen, Lisa Fogle (Tim), Todd Mickelsen (Kelli), Westy Wright, Wyatt Burke (Gina), Bob Mickelsen, Gary Mickelsen (Chung), 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Mickelsen, by his parents, sisters Norma Fisher and Karen Johnston.

Graveside services will be held noon Monday, October 10, 2016 at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, UT.
