Commander Don S. Adams, 88, of Mission Viejo, California, returned home to our Father in Heaven on August 28, 2021.
Don was born January 23, 1933, in Layton, Utah to the late Frances and Donald H. Adams. He was the second of four children: Nita (Eugene) Norman, Sharlet (Robert) Gilchrist, and Dianne Flint. On March 6, 1953, he married the love of his life Joan (JoAnn) E. Shepherd in Elko, Nevada. Three years later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Los Angeles temple. They were happily married until his passing over sixty-eight years later.
Don served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years. He was a true patriot who loved his country. After retiring from active duty, he worked in civil service for the Navy as a Director of Operations (DeCA). Don loved to serve others, especially in his church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served with love as an elders quorum president, young men's president, bishopric member, scout leader, Navy recruits branch presidency member, and San Diego temple worker. He received his Master's degree in Reading and Literacy from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
Don is preceded in death by his sister Sharlet Gilchrist. He is survived by his wife JoAnn E. Adams; daughter Cheryl Adams of Oregon; son Steven Adams (Miriam) of Nevada; sisters Nita Norman and Dianne Flint; grandchildren Christina Salisbury, Tiffany Pelz-Masson, Louise (Charm) Decena, Renee Erickson, Joseph Masson, Elizabeth Pettey, and Sierra Adams as well as sixteen great grandchildren. Don dedicated his life to his extensive family. They were the light of his life, and he was a shining light in theirs.
