Dolores Winn Carter passed away very peacefully on January 29th, 2025, in Santaquin, Utah at the age of 92. She was in and surrounded by the loving arms of her family.
Born on October 29th, 1932 to Alfred Dean Winn and Bertha Nuffer in Nephi, Utah, Dolores was the 4th of 7 children. She graduated from Juab high school in 1950. She married Floyd A. Carter on December 21st, 1949, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. The happy pair lived in Las Vegas and Orem before later moving to their dream ranch in Nephi. They built a beautiful home on the gorge in St. George and retired there, treating their grandchildren to happy and now-precious memories in the sun.
Dolores was a beloved and adored wife, mother, sister, grandmother,"Gigi" (great-grandmother,) friend, and Relief Society sister. She was known and continually referred to as kind, classy, patient, non-judgmental, and a caretaker. She was truly a lady, continually in service of others and skilled at quilt making and baking dinner rolls. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did, and her devoted presence was constant and unconditional.
Dolores excelled in many areas and was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, humbly serving others each day of her life. She served as both stake and ward relief society president multiple times. Her favorite calling in the Church was as cub and pack master (maybe due to skills developed wrangling her own wild boys). Her many church callings and never-ending fellowship of others was a constant facet of her life, which brought her selflessness and comforting spirit to so many.
Dolores was a hard worker! From a young age she helped her dad work on the farm, pulling a horse and plow in the fields. She raised six children- and many of the neighborhood kids- but her home was always spotless! She baked fresh bread on Fridays. She was an outstanding hostess for family events, birthday parties and church gatherings.
Dolores worked as a phone operator in Las Vegas early in her marriage. She was a partner in every family enterprise, supporting the boys as they ran the dairy and doing farm work on the ranch. She was a one man show at Mr. Quick's Drive-In in Nephi, sleeping little in order to have cinnamon rolls ready in time for a hot breakfast, cooking to provide Meals On Wheels to the elderly by noon, then ending the day cleaning up before she would lock up. After most of her children were raised, she worked as a loan officer for First Security Bank, where she retired in 1998.
Dolores is survived by her six children and their spouses, who love and will miss her dearly: Carolyn (James) Stuercke of Santaquin; Les (Robynne) Carter of Salt Lake City; Kenyon (Vicki) Carter of Saratoga Springs; Carwynn (Brooke) Carter of Nephi; Kyle Jon (Teresa Draper) Carter of Nephi; and Carrie Ann (Garry) Schonlaw of St. George; Her siblings: Melba Cook of Logan; Chad (Vernice) Winn of Nephi; and Christine (Max) Nielson of Bountiful; Past daughter in laws, who she had a special gift of remaining close to; Her adoring grandchildren who she doted on: Brooke; Cassandra; Brandon; Peter; Meagan; Cagen; Myranda; Ciara; Casha; Sydney; Zachary; Mykenzie; Amanda; Shelbi; Blake; Colton; Alexandra; Jenna; Jackson; Hayden; Braxton; Spencer; and Capri; Along with 23 great grandchildren who loved being with her.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Keith Winn & Devon Winn, sister Joyce Mikkelson, and grandson-in-law, Jeremiah Levi Ash.
Services in memory of Dolores will be held Saturday, February 8th, 2025, at the Nephi Stake Center, located at 351 North 100 West, Nephi, Utah 84648. A viewing will take place from 9:30 a.m.-10:45 a.m on February 8th, with the memorial service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place immediately following, at the Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi.
As a family we would love to express our gratitude to Seasons of Santaquin, I-Care Hospice, Kori (Mom’s forever CNA) and Carla Carter (Doting daughter in law) for their never ending and loving care of our mom.
