Diane Zupan Riggs

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, peacefully passed away in her sleep, Friday July 21st, 2017 in Riverton, Utah at the age of 63.

Diane is survived by her husband Scott Riggs, 4 children Sharlene (Uel) Archuletta, Sharon Tuttle, Sara Fry, Travis Riggs. 8 grandchildren Uel, Chanelle Deck, Zakery, Jarek, Ethan, Aurora Archuletta and Charlotte and Henry Fry, 5 siblings RaNae (Henry) Bowen, Dennis (Betty) Zupan, Ellen Mabey, Dan Zupan, and David (Emily) Zupan, and a sister-in-law Carol Hale.

Preceded in death by her parents Dan and Charlotte Zupan of West Jordan, Utah, and brother Jay Hale of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Diane was born October 26th, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Dan and Charlotte Zupan. She graduated from Bingham High School in 1972 after her parents made her move from Jordan High School between her Junior and Senior year. Later in life she went to school to become an educator, her specialty was Special Education. She received her Bachelor's degree from Weber State University and her Master's degree from the University of Phoenix. Diane worked as a Special Education specialist at Pleasant Green Elementary (Magna) for many years. The last few years before retirement she worked at Western Hills Elementary and Beehive Elementary both in Kearns. She retired after 24 years at the Granite School District. Diane made many friends while teaching. Everyone loved her witty sense of humor.

Diane loved impractical jokes and puns. She went out of her way to find the sarcastic humor. She always had some silly or goofy joke or song for everything said. Some of our favorites often repeated were... "Rah Rah Ree kick 'em in the knee, Rah Rah Rass kick 'em in the other knee." and "Guilt, the gift that keeps on giving." and many more. She had a quick wit and could make a joke out of anything said. She never ended a conversation without making sure that you knew she cared. She loved her grandkids with all her heart and was so proud of their accomplishments. Whenever they left her house they tried to sneak out without a hug and she made sure they came back in to get a hug and a kiss on the cheek before they left. They kind of made it a game. She was always ready to kick somebody's butt. We all knew we could run faster than her.

When she married Scott she already had 2 daughters. She joked that she had to do something while she waited for Scott to grow up. They were the perfect ditty about "Scott and Diane." She had her favorite songs and musical artists such as Niel Diamond being one of her favorites. She could also turn anything into a silly song or an inappropriate joke. She liked to see who she could get to blush.

We would like to make sure the Riggs family knows how much they meant to her. Her door was always open. Her kitchen was always a favorite gathering area. Everyone loved her cooking and baked goods. She looked forward to holidays where she cooked and baked for everyone. Whenever someone stopped by she had something homemade to offer. Her staples were Diet Coke and some type of snack. She spent many years sewing clothing for her kids. Doing crafts with her mother, aunts, sisters and children.

Special thanks to Scott's family for always loving her and making sure she was always visited. They are her family. Scott's 7 siblings are as follows: Jennifer (David) McMurtrie, Michelle (Mitch) Lacy, Julie (Guy) Lewis, Melanie Fuller, Brian (Katie) Riggs, Nathan (Shelly) Riggs and Sherri (David) Somers, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She loved each and every one of them and looked forward to their visits.

A viewing will be held in her honor at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, Midvale, Utah, Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 6-8 pm. Services will be held at the Riverton 18th Ward Chapel, 2361 West 13400 South, Riverton, Utah. Services begin at 11 am Thursday, July 27, 2017, with a viewing one hour prior. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
