It was early in the morning on September 26, 2020 that Derek James DuBois returned to live with his heavenly family after spending a lifetime making the best of the challenges and obstacles life had placed in his path.
Derek was born in Salt Lake City and was the oldest son of Daniel & Sheila DuBois. He is survived by his parents, his younger brother Robert (Robbie), two Grandmothers, Maurine Dubois & Roxie Blume. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Michael, and Grandfathers Martin Dubois and Helmut "Bob" Blume.
Derek showed his love and affection to everyone he encountered by giving them a big bear hug and kiss on the cheek. It did not matter if you were family or a stranger, everyone got the same hug and kiss.
Growing up Derek and his brother Robbie were active in Scouting, where even with their disabilities and limitations they both were accepted and befriended by a group of young men who have maintained contact with us even to this day. Thank you for your example of love and support.
As Derek grew, he was able to create new bonds of love and friendship with the people who cared and look after him. We would like to thank the staff and all those involved at Frontline Services and Utah State Developmental Center for the care and support that was given to Derek. A special thanks to the doctors and nurses at American Fork Hospital, and to Doctor Steve who took the time out of his busy schedule to sit and comfort Derek on his final night here on earth.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, where there will be viewings Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 10-10:45 a.m. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
