Dennis Tharon Salter

Dennis Tharon Salter passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at his Sandy home surrounded by his family. Dennis was born July 24, 1941 in Kanab Utah to Theron and Kathleen Salter of Mt. Carmel, Utah.

While living in Mt. Carmel, Dennis helped his family on their egg farm. Part of his job was to deliver eggs to customers throughout the valley and Kanab. Dennis graduated from Valley High School in Orderville Utah in 1959. He went on to earn his associate degree from the College of Southern Utah in 1961.

After graduating from the College of Southern Utah, he worked on the movie set of The Greatest Story Ever Told. He worked at several jobs until he started his career in the dental industry. He started work for Western Dental (later becoming Healthco International). During his 29 years there, Dennis worked his way up from shipping clerk to Regional Manager of the Salt Lake and Vegas branches. The company went out of business, but he stayed in the dental industry and worked for Patterson Dental. He took an early retirement and after a short break, started work at Jordan School District as a school bus driver. He very much enjoyed being around the kids and helping them get to and from school safely.

Dennis married Verda Johnson in St. George, Utah on July 10, 1965. They moved to Salt Lake City and then in 1972 built their home in Sandy, Utah. They had two sons: Jay Tharon in 1968 and Michael in 1972.

Dennis loved his boys and supported them in all their activities. He coached several baseball teams for both of his sons and attended 100s of baseball and basketball games. The tradition continued when his grandson started to play baseball. He and Verda rarely missed a game.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Verda Johnson Salter, their two children Jay (Jill) and Michael and their grandson Clint. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Carroll, Evelyn (Bruce) Black, and Patricia Salter. He is preceded in death by his parents and his twin siblings Aleene and Harry.

A viewing will be held February 17th, 2022 from 6 to 8 pm at Anderson & Goff Mortuary , 11859 South 700 East, Draper, Utah 84020.

Graveside services will be held February 18th, 2022 at 12 noon, Crescent Cemetery, 11105 South State Street, Sandy, Utah.
