Our esteemed father, grandfather, and brother, Dean Carlton Andrews left our lives on August 12, 2016. The eldest son of Gerald Wayne and Janet Matilda Andrews, he was born in Hansen, Idaho on August 3, 1931. Raised in Idaho and San Diego, CA, Dean learned the values of hard work and sacrifice through the challenging circumstances of the Great Depression and WWII. Dean was an intelligent and ambitious young man who strove to be well educated. He obtained two bachelor's degrees respectively in Animal Husbandry and Electrical Engineering at Utah State University and later earned a MBA at the University of Utah. While at USU, Dean met the love of his life, Suzanne Sumsion. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 22, 1953. The next 55 years of their lives were filled with many wonderful adventures with their six children.
Dean and Suzanne began their marriage with him serving in the US Air Force Intelligence Service where he achieved the rank of First Lieutenant before being honorably discharged. They eventually settled their family in Sandy and built a home where they lived out the remainder of their lives. Dean had a long career working at Sperry Corp. where he was one of their most trusted engineers. He faithfully served in any call he accepted for the LDS Church and was always generous with his contributions.
Dean lived life to its fullest through his love of fishing, hunting, shooting, and hiking. Many wonderful memories were also created while traveling with his family to destinations throughout the US and Canada. At home, he found great enjoyment watching sports, movies, and westerns. A family man, Dean always encouraged his children to work hard and to obtain a college degree (which they all did). His influence on our lives will be missed. Dean leaves behind his children Jeff (Pat), Nina Shurtliff (Kevan), Gregory, Lynn Napier (Christian), Vonda, and Shane (Elisa), 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and brothers Lloyd and Blair. He is preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne.
A public viewing in his honor will be held at Goff Mortuary at 8090 S. State St. on August 21, 2016 between 6-8 pm. A family graveside memorial service will be held the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Heart Association or LDS Perpetual Education Fund.
