Dawna Bennion Bradford passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 in Sandy. She was the 6th of 8 children born to Geneva Lindsey and Merrill Bennion in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 5, 1930. She graduated from East High.
Mom's legacy would be one of continued learning and compassion. She spent her lifetime gaining knowledge through her voracious reading of many genres but politics and gardening were her typical focus.
She was the resident garden expert, sharing her vast knowledge with others, followed by armwads of her homegrown goods given to friends and family at harvest time. She could make the trickiest plants thrive with her green thumb.
Her handiwork has been admired by and gifted to many. These gifts included crocheted baby blankets, afghans and throws, delicate lace doilies, and whimsical Easter chickens. In addition, she spent much talent on sewing clothing and fancy embroidery of tablecloths and dishtowels.
Mom was an excellent cook and candy maker, which many a waistband can attest to. She always had delicious baked goods to share with those who popped in for a visit. She instilled a passion for baking in many of her grandchildren.
Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Through many parochial and church associations, Mom had much opportunity to serve others. Her charitable acts of service and compassion were given often and willingly and touched the lives of many.
The twinkle in Mom's eye and her never-ending humor brought her some relief through life's difficult seasons. In turn it brought a natural gravitation of people to her. It was often spoken by nieces and nephews that Mom was their favorite.
She is survived by her sons and daughters: Steven, Mike, Elaine (Glenn) and Merrillyn (Shaun); her younger brother, Bruce (Nancy); as well as numerous grand and great grandchildren.
Mom was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Robert; her son, Phillip Dean; her parents, Geneva and Merrill; as well as siblings, Cleo, Vaudis, Virginia, Barbara, Merrill (Bud), and Carol.
We would like to thank the many family, friends and neighbors that enriched and supported her throughout her life, particularly during her time in the Crescent Community. A private graveside service was held in her honor on Friday, November 22, 2019.
