With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, grandfather, teacher, and friend, David Cyril Watt. He returned to his Heavenly Father on March 1 2025, after a life well-lived in faith, devotion, and unwavering kindness. Cyril sang his first note on October 4 1938, in a humble hospital in Pocatello, Idaho. Born to David and Mignon Watt. He grew up in Pingree Idaho on his family’s potato farm, learning the value of hard work, patience, and the beauty of the land. From an early age, he developed a deep love for the outdoors, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He was a rock hound at heart, always searching for treasures hidden in the earth, whether it was agates, fossils, or the simple joy of a day spent in nature. He graduated from Snake River High School and soon after that he was called to serve in the Central States mission where his faith continued to grow. When he returned from his mission he attended Utah State University where he received a scholarship for music. He pursued music, engineering and mathematics to satisfy his yearning for knowledge. A devoted husband, Cyril built a life of love and partnership with his three wives: Pauline, Marcine, and Frances. He and Pauline brought eight cherished children into the world before she moved on from their marriage. With Marcine, he raised ten children of their own in a home filled with warmth and laughter. And when he joined hearts with Fran, he lovingly embraced her six children as his own. He knew both the joy and sorrow of parenthood, holding close the memories of his son, Joey, and dear daughter, Jennifer, who preceded him in passing. His legacy of love lives on in the countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and generations yet to come who will hear of his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith. For over 50 years, Cyril was an educator in the truest sense of the word. From the halls of Jordan High School to the classrooms of Salt Lake Community College, and everywhere else in between, he shared his love of mathematics with thousands of students, not just teaching numbers but instilling confidence and curiosity. His influence stretched far beyond equations and theorems—he was a mentor, a guide, and an inspiration. Music was the hymn of his heart. As a member of the Tabernacle Choir, his voice rose with the saints in praise, and for over half a century, he led music at his church with the grace of a man who understood the power of song to lift the soul. His life was a melody of faith, service, and love—one that will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him. Cyril is preceded in death by his Parents, his wife Fran, his youngest brother Kim and his five grandchildren Cassi Lynn, Brian James, Timmy, Zachary and Carly. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Marcine, his children, his sister Corrine and two brothers Chad and Kevin, and a posterity that will forever be blessed by his example. His was a life well-lived, a race well-run, a song well sung, a journey of faith and devotion completed with honor. We will miss him deeply but find peace in knowing that a mighty humble warrior has returned home, greeted by the loving arms of those who have gone before.
Funeral services will be held March 6 at 11:00am with a visitation from 9:00am-10:45am at the Rocky Ridge Chapel, 157 N. Rockwell Drive Rocky Ridge Utah. Interment will be at Rocky Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Cyril’s memory by sharing music, lifting others, and seeking knowledge—just as he did every day of his life.
