David Maynard

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, David Maynard, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 74 from a stroke. His final days were spent surrounded by the love and support of his cherished family.

Born in Murray, Utah in 1950, to the proud parents Arland and June, David was a gentle soul with a big heart, whose quiet strength and deep kindness left a lasting impact on all who knew him. It’s hard to sum him up in words—except to say, he was simply the best! He married his soul mate and best friend, Karen, in 1972, and together they built a life centered around love, fun, and family. They proudly welcomed and raised three children—Jeremy, Lynette, and Joey—each one a source of pride and joy for him.

David loved the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. He treasured time in the outdoors, especially golfing with his wife and youngest son, hunting trips with both of his sons and grandsons, and he was never happier than when camping with his wife and family. He and Karen built a home that became a true haven—a place of peace and laughter where their children could escape the world and just be together. Weekends were spent swimming, camping, fishing, playing games, or renting videos, and nothing brought David more joy than having his entire family together, simply enjoying each other’s company. He also found joy in the kitchen, especially when baking his famous cinnamon rolls—a treasured family tradition every Easter and Christmas. He especially loved when his daughter and grandchildren joined in to make them, turning the tradition into a beloved, multi-generational tradition of love, laughter, and sugar comas.

He was a devoted father and husband, a steady presence who gave his heart completely and unconditionally. His legacy is one of warmth, compassion, and unwavering love.

He was also an incredibly gifted carpenter. What began as a hobby became a deeply meaningful way he showed love to those around him. David built countless beautiful treasures for his family and friends—hutches, cabinets, bowls, hope chests, chess sets, jewelry boxes, and more. His hands could repair anything that needed salvaging, and everything he made carried the unmistakable mark of care, patience, perfection, and pride.

A proud, honest, and hardworking man, David spent his career as a plumber and was a devoted member of UA Local 19 and 140, Utah’s Union for Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders, and HVAC for 42 years, and proudly working for Great Western Mechanical for 28 years. He believed in doing things the right way, treating others with respect, and lending a helping hand wherever it was needed. Even after his retirement, he continued to serve and volunteer with the union—proof of the pride he took in his work and the community he helped build.

David is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and sister, and has joined the loved ones he has missed so dearly. He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Karen; their three children, Jeremy (Amber), Lynette (Sean), and Joey (Karin); six grandchildren—Samantha, Paige, Matthew, Jacob, Joshua, and Abby; and a family who will forever miss his gentle smile, his soft-spoken wisdom, his hugs, his countless kind words, and the strength of his love.

David’s absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, but his presence will continue to be felt in every shared story, every quiet moment, and every act of love that reflects the man he was.

We invite all who knew and loved David to join us for his viewing on Thursday, April 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Anderson and Goff Mortuary, 11859 South 700 East, Draper, and again the following day, Friday, April 18th at 11:00 AM at Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Sandy, to celebrate his life and love.
