On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, David Richard Haupt passed peacefully from this life with his wife, Catherine Mae Noe at his side. The two had just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
Dave was born on May 1, 1933 in Benson, Arizona. He was 87 years "young." He loved telling stories of his "too poor to pay attention" childhood. His birth into this world was no exception. His father performed the delivery as the doctor fee ($25) had been gambled away. Such as it were, he did not receive his birth certificate until applying for his marriage certificate. He was a "10th grade drop-out" but a life-long learner.
Dave worked as a master electrician for over 50 years. He was proud of the work that he did, passing his knowledge and skills to his sons and grandsons.
Dave and Cathy served a genealogical mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Boston, Massachusetts from 1987-1989.
Dave was known for his generosity and service to others. To his grandchild, he was "Slurpie Grandpa." He kept smiles on faces and 7-11 in business by his purchases.
Talking on the phone was his favorite hobby. If you were lucky enough to be someone he called to check in on, you know what a caring person he was.
He had a deep love for his family. He and his younger brother, Jim, would talk on the phone every single day. Jim says that no one will miss Dave more than his baby brother.
He will be laid to rest with a quiet family burial and celebration of his life. Graveside Burial, Tuesday, May 26 at 1:00 pm. Cemetery address: 7925 S. 1300 W., West Jordan, UT. Celebration of Life, Tuesday, June 9 at 11:00 am. Church address: 12101 S. 700 W, Draper, UT.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy; 4 children, David Haupt, Karen Haupt Leavitt, Linda Haupt Orton, Keith Haupt; and siblings, Carl Haupt and Jim Haupt. He was blessed with 20 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Carl Haupt, his mother Ruth Tucker Haupt; his siblings, Floyd Haupt, Barbara Haupt Johnson, Margie Haupt Donaldson, Carol Haupt Sinclair, Don Haupt; and his eldest daughter, Vicki Haupt Vaterlaus. His family will always love him "back and forth and sideways too." Until we meet again.
