David “Dave” Smith, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and dear friend to many, passed away on March 20, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born on March 4, 1947, in Boise, Idaho, Dave dedicated his life to faith, family, and service. As a young man, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Scotland from 1966 to 1968, where he met a beautiful Scottish lassie who would later become the love of his life. On July 26, 1968, he married Mary Rodgers in the Salt Lake City temple and together they built a loving home filled with love and joy.
Dave worked diligently for 45 years managing dairies for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, providing for his family with dedication and hard work. He was a great example of serving others and putting everyone before himself. He also proudly served in the National Guard from 1968 to 1974 demonstrating his deep love for his country.
He was the proud father of six children: Debbie (John) Welburn, Rob (Annai) Smith, Curt (Mandi) Smith, Nicole (BJ) Hoaldridge, David (Ashley) Smith and Steve (Lindsey) Smith. His legacy continues through his 19 beautiful grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored. Every single grandkid wanted to celebrate Christmas at “Fama” Mary’s and Grandpa Dave’s house. Together with Mary they created a home that was inviting and his family gravitated to the special feeling that resided there.
Dave is survived by his one and only brother Ivan Smith. Dave was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Rodgers Smith, his parents, DeVar and Muriel Smith, as well as his sisters Doris Butler, Carol White, Renee Smith and Marilyn Smith and his beautiful granddaughter Baylee Hoaldridge. Imagining the special reunion that took place brings peace to our hearts.
Dave will be remembered as a man of kindness, faith, and unwavering love—a friend to everyone he met. His presence in our lives will be deeply missed, but his example of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
