David Branson Brinton

David Branson Brinton passed away April 6th in Draper Utah, at the age of 83. Throughout his life, work was Dave’s great teacher. As a young man at Brinton Electric, he drove the company truck and made service calls and learned to wire houses. Later, he served in the United States Army Reserves and as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the North British Mission.

Dave met Jane Scholes at BYU and the two were married in the Salt Lake temple in 1965. They moved to Draper to have enough property for their kids to learn to work. There, they found friends and neighbors who blessed them exceedingly. Together they raised nine children.

Dave prioritized being home for family dinner and prayer. One of the smartest things he ever did, he claims, was to sell his backhoe to purchase a used boat so his family could waterski together–a tradition still loved by his children and grandchildren today. He was proud to see older kids helping the younger ones, teaching them how to waterski, backing the trailer, and playing together.

Professionally, Dave worked at Salt Lake International Airport as Deputy Director of Engineering and Maintenance. Later he oversaw the construction of the Delta maintenance hangar. In addition to his full-time work, he often took on extra jobs to provide for his family.

In his retirement years, Dave served three full-time missions: as a career coach at the Deseret Industries; as an overseer of the construction of the Draper Utah Temple; and later, along with Jane as coordinators in the Young Church Service Missionary program. He also served many years as a temple ordinance worker at Jordan River and Draper temples.

His favorite hobby was making improvements to his home for the comfort of his family. He taught his children many life skills, the value of work, and to always “save your money.” Dave did the best he knew how in the military, as a missionary, bishop, city councilman, and as a loving husband and father.

For a man who acted with integrity, David Branson Brinton left a legacy to his posterity and those who knew him as one to be remembered, celebrated, and honored. He loved the Lord and strived to always do right.

Dave is preceded in death by his father David Brinton and mother Florence Sims, and his sister Marsha (Dave Steiner). Dave is survived by his wife Jane, brother Tom (Helen), sister Jane Monson (Jay), his children David (Stephanie), Maria (Daniel), Bonnie (Robert), Joe (Ginger), Dan (Krista), Emily, Julie (Garn), Scott (Katy), Nancy (Aaron), and his cherished grandchildren.
