Darrin Jon Mann

Darrin Jon Mann, born a warm first day of September in 1967 to Ronald D. and Carol Dee Mann, the 5th child and last boy in the Mann family. Only one more daughter waited to complete the Mann family. The sixties were a time of changes and protest. The first pediatric heart transplant is performed without success. Who knows when you are born how many beats you have in your heart? But Darrin was a member of a growing family. With the many mouths to feed his parents always worked hard in a new family house in what is now Millcreek, Utah. Darrin loved the family house, maybe too much. What will he be remembered for? We don't know it's a mistake until we try. After the action if we learn are we remembered for our life in total or the negative mistakes we made? Love can heal many wounds and every life is sacred and special. Darrin was educated in Granite School District schools, James E. Moss, Granite Park Jr. High and Granite High School. He was always the one in the class to make everyone laugh. He was also fun loving, and loved by a large extended family. Love was strong in the Mann household but the need for money had one parent working the day and the other the night to make the family budget work. The new house made a great place to grow, and there were many temptations for a young boy exploring and trying parents and neighbors patience. Darrin's love and family guidelines gave him a safe childhood.

Darrin was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He attended all primary and Sunday school functions. Loving the outdoors he excelled as a Boy Scout and achieved Eagle Scout, with Ron and Carol Mann's helping hands. And enjoyed camping and hunting even though the family never had guns. He was able to use the Millers' gear anytime as they were the outdoor neighbors, and Darrin enjoyed a lifelong friendship with the all the Miller clan.

Darrin learned how his grandparents fostered caring for all family members, there were many Aunts and Uncles that needed care and he saw first hand how this care giving family worked. There was always someone to help and family reunions that taught the giving we need for one another while on this earth.

Darrin worked at several jobs, Stratton Sales and Service as install mechanic. Granite School District in custodial, wood floor specialist, and general maintenance mechanic. He liked taking care of others property, he was maintenance supervisor at The Covey apartments in Salt Lake. But family care was in his blood, caring for others especially family members that needed help. Darrin married twice to Brooke Miller, first civilly. This union was happy and trying. As it ended he went to his brothers' house in Idaho to get his joy back. After awhile he returned to Utah and Brooke came back into his life, this time with a child. Darrin loved children though he never was a father, but his love was fanned by his loves' return and they worked hard to achieve eternal marriage in the Salt Lake Temple. As an adopted father he loved Erin and they worked at this new relationship, however it ended. Darrin finding himself alone again, brought him to his next chapter.

His Brother David had a brain-stem stroke and after becoming stable enough for extended care David was taken into the family home to be cared for by Mother, Father and family. It was this calling taking care of a family member in need he would take up as his life's last career. Darrin started to help as father Ronald suffered with diabetic foot problems that ended in death. Darrin learned his Mother Carols' strict care schedule for David, as these 2 brothers had been close during their lives sharing similar skills and talents, including working at Modular manufacturing. And shared a carpet cleaning company together. These experiences bonded them together in work, play and suffering. Care giving for David was brutal in many ways especially since David was a non verbal quadriplegic. The level of committed care ended Carols life along with her Parkinson disease, now Darrin became the primary care giver in the family home with the help of siblings. This service is difficult at best and brutally demanding of all family members. After more than 27 years in a wheel chair David's health declined as the Darrin and family aged with these struggles over Darrin failed to find a new path in life and his health suffered. During his care of David he had a health crisis and was in St .Marks hospital for weeks with a diagnose of congestive heart failure. He gained his health to a degree, and supplemented his loss of free time away from the house as David required him to be at the house, he started barbecuing and learned to cook and love it from his mother and grandmother. Serving family members in need and making them a warm meal became his pastime along with a Mann family male tradition of TV and movie watching. Any new movie David and Darrin would see it, and at times with family, they also enjoyed the Living Planet Aquarium in Draper. But the most fun was going to The Salt Lake Comic Con or Salt Lake FanX. It was an experience they loved from the first time and every time at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake riding TRAX made it a real fun family time. We miss those precious family moments and as Darrin couldn't find happiness his health declined and his heart gave it's last beat. Be happy in your reunion with family and loved ones, as the family left behind honors Darrin's wish for cremation and a family gathering to honor him. Graveside service for his remains to be placed in the shared grave of his brother and family in Murray City, UT will take place Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 1:30 pm where friends and family will meet to honor Darrin.
