Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Darren Ray DuRall, 62, of West Valley City, Utah passed away from suicide Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at his home. Darren was born July 16th, 1961 in Alton, Illinois to Reverend Donald E. DuRall and D. Jean (Renner) DuRall, the youngest of 3 children. He graduated from Steelville High School in 1979. He married the love of his life, Helen Kae DuRall, on April 23, 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Darren grew up in Southern Illinois and also lived in Nevada and Utah. Much of his career was as a local and long haul truck driver, most recently working in that field as a Safety Manager. Some of his favorite stories come from his days hauling marble, managing a linen company and owning his own trucking company. He also pursued his dream of becoming a Paramedic, even working at the Winter Olympics when they were held in Salt Lake City.
Darren loved animals and nature and thus, also loved camping. He enjoyed shooting (but not hunting) and fishing. He enjoyed watching and feeding birds, squirrels and other wildlife. He liked playing video games and spending time with friends and family.
Darren grew up active in the Methodist faith, then later joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A few years ago, he returned to the Methodist faith. Most recently, he found comfort and friendship with his Grace Baptist Church family. He was a lifelong searcher of knowledge and truth.
Those who knew Darren know what a good man he was. He was also so funny, friendly and truly the life of the party. He was playful and loved to tease. He always had the best stories and that rare gift of storytelling. He was charismatic and had the talent of being able to read people. He was respectful, tactful and a really deep thinker. He was so tender and loving and took his role of protector seriously.
Darren is survived by his wife Helen; his daughter, Cristina Gilfillan, whom he so greatly loved and wished they could have been apart of each other’s lives; his step-children, Christina Marie (Travis) Day, Marlaine (Justin) Mitchell, Suzanna Braun, Ayme (Ben) Bahrami, Donny (Adri) West; his grandchildren, Berlin, Ian, Blaine, Jasper and Dexter; his sisters, Debra DuRall and Dana Carnahan; and his nephews, Simon and Danyl. He is predeceased by his mother, Jean, and his father, Don.
All are welcome to come together to remember Darren on Friday, September 22nd at the Grace Baptist Church located at 4737 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah with a viewing at 5:30 pm and the Memorial starting at 7:00 pm. There will be a reception beforehand at 3:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building at 4444 S Early Duke Street, West Valley City, Utah. He will be buried Saturday, September 23rd at 11:00 am at the Mona Cemetery, 700 E Cemetery Lane, Mona, Utah. The memorial and committal will be officiated by pastors of the Grace Baptist Church.
Thank you to Goff Mortuary, his Grace Baptist Church family, his Mountain View Methodist Church family, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ward family and for all the love and support from friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the best way to honor Darren’s memory would be to spend some time in nature with your loved ones.
“It's hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember.”
Darren loved deeply and was loved deeply.
