Dan Brent Nelson

Dan Brent Nelson, age 86, died Friday, October 25, 2024 at his home in Sandy, Utah. Dan was born on February 23, 1938 in Murray, Utah to Clarence Royal and Alpha Crapo Nelson. He was the youngest of three boys in his family. Dan grew up in Sandy and graduated from Jordan High School. He married Dorothy Mikkelson on June 27, 1960. They are the parents of three children – a daughter Diane and Brent Adamson, a son, Kevin and Cindy Nelson and a daughter Lori and Wayne Purrington, 8 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. Dan’s sweetheart, Dorothy, preceded him in death in 2019.

Dan spent 40 plus years working in Program Development for the Utah Department of Transportation. He retired in 1997. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Sandy Fire Department for several years before professional firefighters were hired.

Dan was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including bishop of his ward in Sandy. He was a true disciple of Jesus Christ and served faithfully his whole life. Dan’s greatest joy was caring for his wife who had poor health most of her life. He lovingly took care of her every need. He has been a wonderful example to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who love him.

Dan is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and his brother, Collins Nelson.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Crescent 11th Ward Chapel, 89 East 11000 South, Sandy, Utah. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024, also at the Crescent 11th Ward Chapel, with a viewing at 9:45 to 10:45 am and the funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Sandy City Cemetery, 9000 South 700 East, Sandy, Utah.
