Dan Memmott, age 90, passed away December 17, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Although we have tears in our eyes and broken hearts, we rejoice in knowing that he is now reunited with his loved ones that had passed on before him as well as eternal companion and love of his life.
He was born December 2, 1930 in Levan, Utah to James Arthur and Vinnie Elizabeth Memmott. He was the fourth of nine children. He lived and grew up in Levan. In 1948 his father died leaving his mother who had a crippled arm due to polio to provide for and raise the family. Because he had been working since the age of 6 he was capable, able and willing to step up and accept the role as a important provider of not only money but to also assist his mother in any way he could to make sure that the family was cared for. On December 10, 1949 he married his high school sweetheart Wanda Christensen. They had two sons Jeffery Lynn and Michael Dan.
He spent most of his laboring years working at the rubber manufacturing plant in Nephi where they lived as well as establishing his own company doing cement irrigation projects for farmers in the area. Their home was blessed with a constant flow of visitors whether it be family, friends, neighbors, townspeople, and people from neighboring towns or from friends who lived as far away as half way around the world. They might as well of had a large neon flashing sign outside their home saying "We welcome everyone, you are important to us and we want to be a part of your lives." No matter the time of day everyone knew whether they were rich or poor, famous or downtrodden was that if they just wanted to say hello and visit for a while, or were experiencing difficulties in their lives and needed someone who really cared and would listen to them and could help lift them up and to give them encouragement and the courage to press on that they were in a place of peace and refuge. There were always vegetables out of the garden, home cooked meals, a bed or some money if it was needed. If you had something that was broken and needed fixing you came to the right man. If you were not able to go to their home they came to you. They were frequent visitors to widows and widowers, those that were afflicted, homebound, living in rest homes and to those who were in the hospital. His wife Wanda passed away December 4, 2012. They had been married for 63 years.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions including as Bishop of the Nephi 3rd Ward. Upon retirement he and his sweet wife served a mission in Queensland Australia.
He sold his home in Nephi in 2018 and moved to Salt Lake City to be closer to his family. That is where he met and married Carol McLaughlin on July 2, 2019. They had a wonderful and special relationship until the time of his passing. She was with him and cared for him when he was in need.
He is survived by his wife Carol as well as sons Jeffery and wife Carmen and his son Danny and wife Shauna. He had 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He as well leaves behind as his brother Pete and his wife Sharlene, brother Hela and sister Kitty.
