He met Janelle Tervort while attending Snow College and they married on March 24, 1990 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Dale is survived by his wife Janelle, and their five children; Samuel (Rebekah), Kirsten Davidson (Derek), Gregory, Scott, and Maren; his parents H. Clarence and Patricia Thomson; and his siblings Mark (Stephanie), Steven, (Shelly), Karen Atkin (Gordon), and Craig (Robyn).

He has been reunited with his youngest brother Chad and other loved ones who have passed before him.

Dale will be remembered for his support of University of Utah athletics and his love of Dutch Oven cooking. He served in many callings in the LDS Church.  He will be greatly missed by all.
