Cory, our dear sister, auntie and friend, has been released from her long struggle with multiple forms of cancer. Valient to the end, she left us on February 9, 2021 in Heber City, Utah. She leaves behind her younger siblings, Milt (Becky) Sargent of Henefer, Utah and Louie (Doug) Geary of Lindon, Utah. She was "Auntie" to 11 nieces and nephews and a "Great Auntie" to a host of others. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Ken and Margaret Sargent of Hoytsville, Utah.
Cory was born September 26, 1949 and grew up on the family farm in Hoytsville. She graduated from North Summit High School and then went on to get a bachelor's degree from BYU. A voracious reader, Cory was rarely found without a stack of books at her elbow, usually reading three or four at the same time. She worked in various positions in Salt Lake City throughout her life and lived there as well, moving back to her family home in Hoytsville once she retired. Her days in retirement were filled with the quiet of the farm and looking out her large, living room window to count the deer or the horses in the field. She loved the peacocks that visited the yard and they seemed to know that by choosing her backyard to raise their chicks. They will certainly miss her and so will we.
A small family viewing will be held on Saturday, February 13th at the LDS Chapel in Hoytsville beginning at 10:30 until 11:45. A graveside service will then be held at the family plot in the Hoytsville Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
I wish you sweet sleep, my sister dear.
Although there's so much that you've left bare,
I hate that you had to endure such pain.
On my mind, your saddened eyes have left a stain
So...sleep on, my sister; sleep tight,
For now with you the sky is night.
But after night will come daybreak.
Therefore, I will wait hoping to see you awake.
