Connie Joy Thomas

Our Beautiful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, Connie Joy Walker Thomas, 82, returned home to her Heavenly Father Friday April 21, 2017 surrounded by her children due to complications of dementia.

Mom was born July 6th, 1934 in Union, Utah to Royal and Lyle Walker. Mom attended school in Union and graduated from Jordan High, where she was a cheerleader and loved every minute of it.

She married her sweetheart, Richard James Thomas, May 29, 1956. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple August 14, 1961.

Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the Gospel and served faithfully in many callings. She especially enjoyed serving in the Ogden Temple with her eternal companion. Mom's most important calling was that of being a loving wife and mother. Her family was always her top priority. She loved spending time in the mountains camping and enjoying the beauty of nature. She had numerous talents. She was an excellent seamstress, even making her own wedding dress. She also enjoyed crafting and making porcelain dolls. She loved helping Dad in the yard, until her allergies would force her inside. Her most amazing talent was making others happy. She was a special friend to many and enjoyed meeting people at Cavanaugh's chocolate store in the Layton Hills Mall. She was the manager there for over a decade.

Mom and Dad's marriage was a great example of love and dedication to each other for 57 years. The last few years mom's memory began to decline. When our Dad got sick we realized how much care he was giving mom on a daily basis. Six months after he passed away we moved her into Fairfield Village of Layton Assisted Living. There were so many things for her to do and she enjoyed her time there. In January of 2016 it became necessary to move her into the Memory Care. The staff took excellent care of her. She loved the friendships she acquired with both the residents and the staff. She was the Life of the Party!! She was always dancing, singing and making everyone happy. Her children have been so blessed to be able to love and support her through this stage of her life. Our Mother was the Best!

She taught us to enjoy life no matter where it takes us. Her favorite saying was, "It's better to Laugh than to Cry." She told everyone that several times a day. We love and appreciate the staff and residents at Fairfield Village and want to thank them for all they did for her and especially for loving her so much.

Connie is survived by her children Jill (Tracy) Sargent, Calli Thomas, Brett (Lisa) Thomas and Jennifer Ferrin, ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren with two more on the way. Also survived by her sisters Maxine Smith, Carolee Oaks, brother Kent (Penny) Walker, sister Myrna (Irwin) McPherson, brother Terry (Cynthia) Walker and sister-in-law Marilyn Thomas. Preceded in death by her loving husband Richard, father and mother Lyle and Royal Walker, sister Janene Walker, brothers-in-law Vance Smith, Tom Oaks and Robert Thomas.

There will be a viewing for family and friends Friday, April 28, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the LDS Ward House, 2505 North Church Street, Layton, Utah. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 am with a viewing from 9:45-10:45. Interment will follow at the Lindquist Memorial Park, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah.
