In Loving Memory
Murray, Utah-With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Connie Rae Sample on September 14, 2021. She was born on Friday, August 7th, 1936 to Ivan and Olive Lloyd. She was a beloved wife, mom, sister, and daughter. Mom was a member of the LDS faith and loved watching General Conferences.
Mom was valedictorian of her high school class at Jordan High School and memorized her graduation speech. She also sang in a trio and loved playing for a local softball team. Some of her favorite memories were with her Forever Friends that she knew since first grade. Mom was part of the sixth grade graduating class and committee that bought the original Norman Rockwell painting that hangs in Draper Elementary.
Mom was a beautician at Excelsior Beauty Salon in Salt Lake and met her husband through his mom as she was doing her hair. She married George Wallace Sample on Oct. 14, 1955. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. A testament to their love is that they were happily married for 66 years. They loved each other deeply and showed this each day through their actions and words. They are true soulmates.
Mom raised four children with Dad while working as a reporter for the Murray Green Sheet and working for Murray Community Education as the treasurer for the preschool and dance programs. She enjoyed both of these careers. Her wit and intelligence showed through her articles and stories.
Mom loved to write. She wrote a book of poetry for family and friends. She also wrote several roadshows for our LDS ward and won first place many times. Mom relished writing and directing each of the roadshows. She even wrote the words to all of the songs.
Mom was the bowling president of a senior bowling league for 14 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Her bowling team (which included Dad) won first place twice.
Mom was active in PTA for most of her life. She was PTA President of Liberty Elementary, Riverview Junior High, and Murray High School all at the same time. Mom was given a lifetime achievement award for all of her hard work in PTA. Being in the PTA was one of her passions because of her warm heart and service to others. Mom and Dad were both on the committee and did fundraising to place the lights on the Murray High School football field.
Mom loved traveling, reading, watching the NY Yankees, watching BYU football, going out to eat, singing, and spending time with family and friends. Mom had a wonderful sense of humor and loved laughing. Mom has been an inspiration to her family with her love and kindness. She loved living in Murray and knew many people in the area. We have so many amazing memories of her laughter and love.
She leaves behind her husband, George (Buck) Sample, daughter Sheri, son Troy (Marci), granddaughter MaKalee, son Jay (Chris), and granddaughters Adrian and Danielle. We love her to the moon and back. Mom will be deeply missed but we know that we will be together again.
Mom is preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Ann, her parents, her sister Lois Engstrum, and her brother-in-law Robert Engstrum.
