Colleen Newbold

Colleen Asay Newbold joined her eternal companion, Shirl, and two of her sons, Cary and Danny, the morning of April 3, 2018. Colleen was born July 15, 1930, in Draper, Utah, to Vard and Jennie Asay. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1948. She married Shirley Eugene Newbold in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1949. Together, they raised their three sons in Midvale, Utah.

Throughout her life, Colleen was devoted to serving her family, friends, and neighbors. Her greatest joy was her family which she selflessly supported, encouraged, and strengthened. She understood the value of people and relationships, not material things. Colleen and Shirl established many family traditions that always brought their immediate and extended family together to enjoy and strengthen the bonds of family.

Colleen provided countless hours of service in her LDS Ward. She was a humble leader and inspiring example of goodness and charity to those who knew her. Colleen loved to read and had a vast understanding of people and places. She developed a love for gemstones and an appreciation for their origin and beauty. Those around her smiled often because of her wit and sense of humor.

Colleen is survived by her son Barry (Sherry), daughters-in-law Bonnie (Cary-deceased), Debbie (Danny-deceased), 16 grandchildren, and 31great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren as well as her sisters Rita Briggs (Duane), Donna Rae Jenson (Jim-deceased), and brothers Larry Asay (Joyce-deceased), Bryce Asay (Pat), and Val Asay (Melody). Also preceded in death by her sister Jean Butler.

A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale. A family graveside service will be held immediately following the viewing. Interment will be at the South Jordan Cemetery, 10650 S. 1055 W. The family expresses sincere appreciation for the care and services provided by the staff from Brighton Home Health and Hospice as well as staff at the Wentworth at Willow Creek Assisted Living Center.
