Clinton "Leo" Howes, was born July 9, 1929 in Salina, Utah to Clinton Errol Howes and Cora Matilda Westwood. He died peacefully in his home in West Jordan, Utah on October 22, 2018.
Leo was raised on the family farm in Marysvale, Utah. He began working on the farm at an early age. His grandfather was a blacksmith and Leo helped his grandfather by stoking the fire and pumping the forge when just a boy. Leo said: "By the time I was 11 years old I was running the farm and working as hard as any adult." He was driving tractors and trucks by 10-11 years old. Leo knew how to work and work he did.
Leo was certified as a plumber but that was not his only profession. He was the definition of the term "Jack of all trades." He was a farmer, plumber, electrician, carpenter, handyman, event host, chef and many other things, most important of all he was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and true friend. He was a great man who loved and served those around him and served the Lord.
Leo had such a robust life, he was able to retire from three careers. He worked at the University of Utah, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints and the First Step House.
Leo was called to serve in the Western States Mission. He served his mission 1951 to 1953 when he was honorably released. His church service continued on throughout his life. He was ordained to the quorum of the seventy in 1962. He served as a teacher in the quorum of the seventy for 12 years.
Leo is survived by his wife Dorothy Faye Spicer, his children, Jack Howes, Keith Howes, Ron Griffith, Jeremy (Julie) Smith, Sylvia (Linn) Carroll, Sharon (Carl) Woodhead, Christine Comly, Alan (Leslie) Comly, Darryl (Rosemary) Comly, 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton E. and Cora Matilda Westwood Howes; sister, Cora Louise Howes Leavitt , his brother Ray Howes and son Darryl Comly.
A viewing will be held Friday, October 26th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. After the viewing an informal ceremony will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale. Interment will be at the Midvale Cemetery.
