Clifford Leon Allsop

Clifford Leon Allsop, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2021 at the age of 88.

Leon was born in Enterprise, Utah on May 10, 1933 to John Reuel and Addrean Huntsman Tait Allsop. He lived there for several years before the family moved to West Jordan and Union Fort, Utah. He attended Jordan High School but knew there was more he wanted to see. So, Leon enlisted in the United States Navy. He honorably served and enjoyed seeing the world. He was aboard an oil tanker that sailed to Asia and was stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

When he completed his service, he met his sweetheart and married Rea Cooley on May 18, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah, then planting their family roots deep in Murray, Utah.

Leon worked at Eimco Corporation for 15 years learning his trade as a welder. He then went to work for Kennecott Copper. Cliff, as he was known on the hill, was a skilled journeyman welder and many of his coworkers would comment on his great work. He would spend 30 years honing his trade and always teaching others his techniques.

Leon loved the outdoors, especially up at the cabin on the North Fork of the Duchesne River near the high Uintah's. He took a two-room logger's cabin and built it into a family homestead where all the members of his family have enjoyed the beauty of the mountains for decades. Many weekends and vacations were spent at the cabin. There he enjoyed hunting & fishing, riding horses, and "porching" with friends and family.

He had many hobbies in his lifetime. One of his favorites was archery. Leon and Rea were some of the founding members of Datus Archery, which became a wonderful family project.

He coached girls' softball spending hours on the softball diamond. He also was an avid gardener, producing a bountiful harvest for family and friends. His cousin, Mel Allsop, taught him wood carving, which gave him much joy in his retirement.

Leon is survived by his wife Rea, children; John (Carrie) Allsop, Manti, Utah; Joanie (Todd) Hardcastle, Midvale, Utah; and Connie Allsop (Kevin Capson), West Jordan, Utah; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and sister Linda. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruemola, Mary Lou, LaWen, Virginia, brother Joseph, and grandson, Kyle Trammell.

Viewing services will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, UT 84047, on June 3, 2021 at 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Graveside services will be held directly after the viewing at West Jordan Cemetery, 7925 South 1300 West, West Jordan, UT 84088.
